“the rescape” is a villa-type resort hotel located on the east coast of Miyako Island. It just opened in 2019 and is just a one-minute walk to the ocean. The rooms are equipped with private pools, and the hotel is a luxurious place to relax and enjoy the nature of Miyako Island.
This article reports on our stay at the rescape, we were a family of 3 with a 4-year-old and it was very comfortable. We stayed in a villa, so we didn’t have to worry about other guests.
Foreigners considering a trip to Miyako Island are encouraged to review the reviews in this article.

A quick overview of “the rescape”
First, let me give you a quick overview of the inn.
Where is the rescape located on Miyako Island? What features do they have?
“the rescape” is an island inn located in the Gusukube district of northeastern Miyako Island. The most unique feature of the rescape is its location. Situated in a secluded area between a cliff and the sea, it has the atmosphere of a secluded island. It is a 15-minute drive from Miyako Airport.
All rooms at the rescape are villa-type rooms, so you can enjoy them without worrying about being seen. Even during the high season when many tourists visit, you will be able to spend a relaxing time without feeling too many people.
Origin of “the rescape”
The name of the inn, “rescape,” was coined by combining the words “retreat” and “escape. It is meant to encourage guests to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and stress, and to pamper their bodies and minds.

First, check in at the reception!
When you arrive at the inn, first check in at the reception building in the center of the grounds. The reception also has a gallery store and a corner where you can make your own custom bath salts. Board games and picture books are also available, so if you want to enjoy your room time, you can borrow them when you check in. Incidentally, our 4-year-old was fascinated by the picture books with sea creatures and dinosaurs popping up.
It was probably more engaging than the pool.も。
What are the features of the rooms at the rescape?
After receiving an explanation of the hotel at the reception building, we received our keys and headed straight to our rooms. Each room has its own parking space in front of the room, so you can drive to your room. This makes it easy to get around even if you have a lot of luggage or small children.
There are 8 types of rooms in total. They vary in size and design. This time we stayed in a Suite Villa (Daybed) room.
- Rescape Suite Villa :112㎡
- Premier Suite Villa :99〜107㎡
- Suite Villa (Daybed) :91㎡ ← This is the room we stayed in this time
- Suite Villa :91㎡
- Deluxe Villa :83~90㎡
- Comfort Villa :66~70㎡
- Comfort Cottage :57〜61㎡
- Comfort Room :40㎡
Long hallway and spacious living room
First of all, the “long white hallway” is very impressive the moment you open the front door.
The living room is located down a long hallway. The white-based interior is clean and spacious with wide ceilings. The ceiling is wide and open, and the large windows provide plenty of light.

Private pool included so you can play anytime.
At the rescape, almost every room has a private pool. It is long enough to swim in and much larger than I had expected. Also, since the pool is heated, it can be used all year round. Even in the fall and winter months, when it is chilly and difficult to go into the ocean, it is a good point to be able to enjoy playing in the water.

The culture of Miyako Island can be felt.
Another feature of the rescape is its ingenuity in evoking the “culture of Miyako Island” in some places. It is not only beautiful and luxurious, but also offers a glimpse of the island’s traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation.
For example, this tapestry hanging in the living room is dyed with Ryukyu indigo. It is said to be made using a technique called “sazanami shibori,” which is based on the image of waves that come and go.
Other handcrafts of Miyako Island are scattered everywhere, such as objects made of kuba leaves and hand-formed glass lighting. It is interesting to look for them.
Bathrooms and shower rooms
In addition to the shower room, the room we stayed in this time has two bathtubs that make you feel like you are in the open air. Like the living room, it has a large window for great lighting and a great view. It feels great to take a hot bath after swimming in the pool.

The fact that more bath towels were provided was also a nice touch. This kind of attention to detail raises the level of satisfaction.
So cute that you’ll want all the original goods.
When you stay at this inn, you will always see the “original goods” of the rescape. For example, welcome sweets include “Chinsuko”, a Japanese sweet with a logo on it. In addition, original goods such as toiletries, body towels, flip-flops, and mugs are placed in various places in the guest rooms, and they are all cute.
And most of the goods can be purchased at the gallery store in the reception area. Our family fell in love with this blue mug at first sight and bought it without a second thought.
Dinner at the rescape
The chef of this restaurant has won a Michelin star for three consecutive years in Kitashinchi, Osaka. His cuisine, which makes the most of local ingredients, is exquisite.
All dishes are exquisite, taking full advantage of the umami of the ingredients. Miyako beef,” “island rakkyo,” “Agu pork,” and other Okinawan ingredients are used in abundance.
Apart from the Ojyu bento, I ordered an assortment of fruits. You can enjoy mangoes, passion fruit, dragon fruit, and other fruits unique to Miyako Island all at once. The arrangement was beautifully done and the picture was outstanding. My son was delighted. We enjoyed our meal by the pool on the terrace.
Breakfast at the rescape
Breakfast is available at the restaurant on the second floor of the front desk. The number of seats is also reduced compared to usual, to ensure social distance. The number of seats is also reduced to ensure social distance.
The view from the restaurant is excellent, and the ocean view is refreshing. Coffee or tea is available during or after your meal.

There is also a pool terrace
In addition to the private pools in the rooms, there is a large infinity pool. Beach parasols, beds, and floats are also provided.
1 minute walk from the hotel to the private beach
The private beach is only a minute walk from the hotel. Almost no one was there that day, so we had the vast expanse of ocean to ourselves. It is no exaggeration to say that it is worth staying at Rescape just to see this scenery. The contrast between the sea and the mountains, which is hard to find even on Miyako Island, was spectacular.
At low tide, the beach here is a bit rocky. The tide pools that form there are filled with hermit crabs, small crabs, and small fish. I found a huge hermit crab on the beach. Really rich in diversity!
There were also many blue and green sea glass drops, which make great souvenirs. The east coast of Miyako Island is also famous as a habitat for sea turtles, and if you are lucky, you may even see a sea turtle catching its breath.
When playing in the ocean, be sure to take your trash home with you, and do not touch coral or other living creatures unnecessarily. Please be sure to enjoy yourself with good manners so that everyone can have a pleasant time.
The Rescape also offers a variety range of events and activities
At Liscape, we value the “experience” more than simply providing accommodations. For this reason, we have prepared a number of events and activities in which guests can participate.
For example, marshmallow night and morning yoga are free, and marine goods such as snorkel sets and life jackets are available for rent. There are also kayaking, SUP tours, and a tour to see a fisherman bare diving, so there are many ways to have fun.
All the staff are nice.
During this stay, I had contact with four or five inn staff members, and everyone was wonderfully responsive and pleasant. They did their best to accommodate our requests and we felt that the hospitality of the staff was warm. Sometimes when I pass the staff outside, they greet me with a big smile.
What to expect when staying in the rescape
There is really nothing around, so you should buy what you need before you check in. Also, there are no places to eat at night near the hotel, so those who want to drink and walk around at night should be careful. However, it is only a 15–20-minute drive to downtown of the Miyako Island, so you may be able to have dinner there if you take a cab.
One night is not enough at the rescape.
There is so much to do at the rescape: private pool, snorkeling, playing on the shore, and all kinds of activities. So, one night is not enough. If you can, I would definitely recommend staying multiple nights.
You can also go out for sightseeing when you stay with us, but you may prefer to spend your time relaxing in and around your room. Forget about work and worries and spend “a luxurious time doing nothing” at the rescape.
